Forming the overall shape.

The wet clay bricks are laid on a plastic sheet and an outline drawn round the final shape. This is later used as a template when casting the concrete pad for the sculpture to be laid on in its final resting place.

The bricks are placed with spacers in between to compensate for the mortar joints which will eventually bond the bricks together. Reference is made to the small model (maquette) and the bricks laid to represent the overall form of the sculpture.
